Hi! My name is Debbie LaChusa. My journey toward becoming
a work-at-home mom began more than 18 years ago.
I remember the day
vividly...
I was sitting in my
beautiful corner office, on the 16th floor of a downtown
high-rise, looking out the full wall of windows (it was an
amazing view!), but I wasn't happy. In fact, I was downright
sad.
I had just
returned to my advertising agency job after having my first
child.
I had taken a
four-month maternity leave when my daughter Brianna was born in
1989, and fully expected to pick up my career where I left off
before her birth.
Even though I married
young, I was always committed to being a career woman.
I put myself through
college and delayed having children until I was settled in a
career and my husband and I had bought a house. I enjoyed my
work and always assumed I would continue working after I had
kids.
But once I had
Brianna, everything changed.
Suddenly what had
been so important to me, wasn't anymore. My first week back to
work, I found myself sitting in my office, staring out the
window and wishing I was home with her.
It was that week that
I made the decision to find a way to be there for my daughter
and still have a fulfilling career.
Back in 1989,
telecommuting and flex-time didn't exist.
I was forging new
ground when I went in to my boss and told him I wanted to
negotiate a flexible work arrangement and that I wanted to work
from home.
But I was
committed to my cause and I never gave up.
After several
flex-time and part-time jobs, and having my second baby in 1992
and continuing to struggle to find a working arrangement that
allowed me to balance career and family, I finally made the leap
to start my own
marketing consulting business and become a true work-at-home
mom in 1998.
It was tough at
first.
I was very good at my
profession, but I really didn't know how to run a business. I
stuck with it and within a few years I was making more than I
ever made working in a job AND I was working fewer hours. Best
of all, I had the flexibility to be home with my kids.
In 2004 I started
my second business.
In November 2004, I
launched
10stepmarketing, an Internet-based marketing coaching and
training business. This business provided me with a crash-course
in Internet Marketing along with another income source that
didn't require me to trade hours for dollars (a trap that can
suffocate you and limit your income).
6FigureWorkAtHomeMom.com is my third business venture.
For a long time I
have wanted to help other mothers do what I have done... create
a fulfilling and successful work-at-home business that allows
them to make great money AND be home with their kids. And that's
what 6FigureWAHM is all about. To find out how you can become a 6
Figure WAHM too, please click here.
I have nearly come
full circle.
My daughter Brianna
is now 18 years old and attending college 2,300 miles away from
home. While it is hard to have her so far away my greatest
joy is knowing I didn't miss out on spending time with her over
the past 18 years because I was too busy working in a job
somewhere.
